I make obeisance to the Divine Being, who is visible on the crest of the Vedas, who is the fountain of eternal bliss, and whose abode is reached by Vimaanas or Aeroplanes. This blogpost will demonstrate how air travel is possible for humans and comfortable sky voyage is possible through engineering. I have translated the Vaimanika Shastra for the purpose of illustrating how air travel has been described in our shastras. This translation can be used further for research purposes.
Bharadwaaja thus defines the word Vimaana: -
Vega-Saamyaat Vimaano Andajaanaam. Sootra 1
"Everybody wants to fly, therefore Vimanas were created."
Having thus defined the name of the Vimaana, the sage proceeds to describe its details.
☞ Rahasyagnyodhikaaree. Sootra 2
It is a secret known only to pilots
Scientists say that there are 32 secrets of the working of the Vimaana.
Aerial routes.
☞ Panchagnyascha. Sootra 3.
The pilot should know five things.
☞Aavartaascha. Sootra 4
Here come whirl-pools.
☞Angaanyekatrimsat. Sootra 5
There are 31 parts.
☞Vasthraadhikaranam: About bodily clothing of a pilot
☞Yantu-praavaraneeyow prithak prithak ritubhedaat. Sootra 6
Since there are many engines and atmospheres, the bodily clothing of the pilot should be different.
☞Aahaaraadhikaranam:-
On food that is spiritual.
☞Aahaarah Kalpabhedaat. Sootra 7
The food is different according to the yuga and kalpa (galactic yuga).
☞Visha Naashas Tribhyaha. Sootra 8
3 varieties of clothes ward off negative atmospheres
☞Tat Kaalaanusaaraat iti. Sootra 9
Time should be followed like a chariot or wheel.
☞Tadabhaavay Sathva-Golovaa. Sootra 10.
And also you should take good vitamin pills.
☞Phala Moola Kanda Saarovaa. Sootra 11
We shall need the essence and juices of fruits.
☞Apicha Trinaadeenam. Sootra 12
We shall need even water-grown plants and trees with three-fold roots.
☞Athha Yaana Lohaani. Sootra 13
Next we’ll talk about the metals for the aeroplanes.
Lohashuddhyadhikaranam: On the Purification of Metals.
☞Tatchhuddhir yathaa shodhanaadhikaaray. Sootra 14
The purification should be by the use of mercury.
☞Second chapter:
Oosh mapaastriloha Mayaaha. Sootra 1
The mantra for mixing of metals with energy is Oosh mapaastriloha.

The propulsion place via fire.

Now for the fireplace, use downwards metal in row 9 of column 7 of the period table.
☞Syaad-bhastrikaashtame Shodashee. Sootra 5
The metal for the propulsion chambers should be in row 8 column 16 of the periodic table.

The twelve (12) kinds of lights for submarines.

The text Loha tantra describes the metal which absorbs coldness

Of Vimanas which have missiles (including the thunderbolt)

Of the machine that allows internet connection (wireless communications)

Of the machines that allow going around juxtaposed planets and fire missiles
☞Soorya Shaktyapakarshana Yantra
Of machines which operate by solar energy

Of machines which can be used to spread negative air currents

Of machines which can be used to halt Vimanas
☞Vyshvaanara-naala yantrah
Of Vimanas which could allow humans to travel around the Universe

☞Of the different varieties of Vimanas including subtle ones and others
☞Jaati tryvidhyam Yugabhedaad Vimaanaanaam. Sootra 1.
Of the different kinds of Vimanas including the ones which could travel for extended periods in all 3 mediums (air, space and water)
☞Pancha-vimshan Maantrikaaha Pushpakaadi Prabhedena" Sootra 2.
Of the five hypersonic Vimanas including Pushpak Vimana
☞Bhyravaadi Bhedaat Tantrikaa-shshat-panchaashat." Sootra 3.
Of the 56 varieties of Vimanas which could be operated by fire
☞Shakunaadyaah Panchavimshat Kritakaah. Sootra 4
Of the Shakuna Vimana and 25 different types which are artificial or mechanical
