The beginning of the war in Ukraine caused many planetary upheavals and circa 2025, it appears that these are coming to an end.  We can now see that the world is moving towards reconciliation and has understood the value of peace. For example, world leaders such as Donald J. Trump intervened to broker a ceasefire between Israel & Iran recently. Something similar happened in the neoteric military confrontation between India and Pakistan, and the mediation of the US President brought about a truce. This is the way forward for the planet and in the future we will see the international community come together in unity to de-escalate tensions and usher in peace. If you wish to know more about yugas, I invite you to read my book, The Spiritual Science of the Vedas.

Now more than ever, our choices matter...

So far, as a civilization, we have chosen to continue meat eating, use of fossil fuels, and an aversion to prayer since our habits have largely not changed. And, hence, we continue to experience widespread war, natural calamities, and economic downturns which rob us of our peace of mind.  Only India seems to be making the right choices, backed by politicians willing to usher in Satya Yuga and its principles - mind you, politically and at the national level.

India's economic miracle

This is the extraordinary example being set by the BJP-led Modi Govt and hence, India is experiencing economic growth like we haven’t seen before, while many other nations languish in the throes of economic recession.  India is now the 4th largest economy in the world by nominal GDP and it is set to become the 3rd largest soon, overtaking Germany.  This will mark a momentous moment in the history of Bharata Varsh.  If a country or civilization protects cows, discourages meat-eating and promotes genuine spirituality and Vedic culture, it will experience the grace and favour of the Supreme Lord.

Smart devices of the future

To digress, in the coming years, we will see the invention of new devices and software as a result of the AI revolution. Word is out that a new device may soon replace the smartphone and that it will be entirely AI-based. Likewise, we shall see the emergence of new operating systems (OS) which makes full use of the AI capabilities we have developed. It will most likely be an operating system that will be revamped to a Virtual Assistant OS, and it is also very likely that we will see a new holographic device come to the market. It's been a while that we haven't seen new hardware come through and it is very likely that we will see new hardware devices come to the fore.

We have yet to see the invention of a new hardware system that takes voice commands from the user, is mounted on a holographic platform and functions on the basis of Agentic AI. All of this is a harbinger of science-fiction like scenarios and surprisingly, we are already seeing the use of robots, e.g. robo-cleaners in modern households. In the future, society will be equipped with functional robots which accomplish a specific task expertly and with multifarious features. It appears that humanoid robots have failed to appeal to the masses and it is very probably because it is such a dystopian idiosyncrasy.

AI & dystopia

Dystopia caused by AI is incumbent upon us as we are going to see waves of unemployment due to widespread adoption of AI by global corporations. In my opinion, the widespread adoption of AI by the world’s leading companies is actually motivated by the desire to reduce its workforce while productivity appreciates.  However, the way forward is to train and reskill the workforce to adopt AI.  Gen Z seems to understand this truth and this makes them very appealing to private companies.  However, for countries willing to protect its social fabric from the ills of social protests, disharmony and malcontent, it is imperative to legislate to protect the rights of workers, especially those who tend to be at the mercy of the ‘hire and fire’ policy of private companies.

Karma & the planet's destiny

Again, this is part of a wider karmic backlash that the world is undergoing which is causing dystopia and disillusion everywhere.  To further understand the laws of karma, we recommend the book "Laws of Nature", by His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.  The solution is to align ourselves completely with the will of the Supreme Lord and His righteous avatar, Lord Kalki. Only then, will we be able to relieve the planet from its karmic burden and the ills that beset it.  This requires us to be in tune with genuine spiritual leaders and Vedic sages so that we may understand our purpose in the universe and our greater good.

Environmental stewardship

Since we are talking of planet Earth, it is an imperative for me to highlight that modern times demand greater environmental activism. Right now, there is a global effort to fight climate change and environmental pollution but its promulgation is being lost amidst the din of militarization and wars. There is a dire need now to renew the principles of environmental stewardship and to foster climate action all over the world. We all want to safeguard the planet for future generations, but some of us are too much lost in sense enjoyment to witness this truth. Technology is being more and more used to fight climate change. Drones that carry small plant capsules are being employed in Brazil to reforest green areas hitherto lost to deforestation. AI is being used to predict weather patterns and climatic disturbances. In the Netherlands, a startup called The Ocean Cleanup is using AI to clear up plastics from seawater. New Delhi is investing in facilities that will recycle e-waste, on a large scale, using the principles of innovation, sustainability and the circular economy.

The opportunity of human life

This is about the future of our planet and this planet and the opportunity of human life are rarely achieved, and it is a precious gift.  It is given so that we can afford the chance to progress spiritually so that we can perfect ourselves and return to the realm of God thereafter.  The problem is that we remain too materially attached, which promises nothing but misery if we fail to dovetail ourselves with God’s laws. Life on Earth has previously experienced periods of peace, bounty and profusion but this was available when our consciousness was fully in sync with God or when we were fully God conscious or Krishna Conscious.

There are a few practical steps we can take to ensure we advance in Krishna Consciousness or God consciousness: -

1)        Adopt vegan meat and a vegetarian diet in the place of animal meat.

2)        Read spiritual literature and Vedic shastras regularly

3)        Chant the holy names regularly, whether by japa or sankirtan.

4)        Avoid sinful activities like meat-eating, illicit sex, gambling and intoxication.

5)        Encourage youngsters to follow the Vedas and the spiritual path.

I will leave you with some enlightened words of Albert Einstein: -

“Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.” – Albert Einstein
