The EU AI Act

Updated: May 2

This is a follow up from my article entitled “Paving the way for trustworthy AI” as the European Parliament has enacted a law called the EU AI Act which is the first law on Artificial Intelligence.

The EU had proposed new rules and a regulatory framework earlier on.  However, this law changes everything about AI. While AI has brought about many benefits, it has come with some dangers as well. That is why, in its own words, the EU wants to “to make sure that AI systems used in the EU are safe, transparent, traceable, non-discriminatory and environmentally friendly. AI systems should be overseen by people, rather than by automation, to prevent harmful outcomes.”

The Interpol and the ICJ

This EU AI Act can be enforced by organisations such as the Interpol and it also can be overseen by organisations such as the International Court of Justice (ICJ).  AI control is already outlawed and the EU is making sure future risks posed by AI are also curtailed.  Already some countries are coming up with new ways of policing such as AI policing.  This can make sure that crime rates drastically fall down. However, the EU has also demanded that such AI systems used by law enforcement be registered in an EU database.

AI, for instance ChatGPT, will have to comply with new transparency requirements for example: -

  • · Disclosing that the content was generated by AI

  • · Designing the model to prevent it from generating illegal content

  • · Publishing summaries of copyrighted data used for training

In this way, the EU is trying to make sure that AI also becomes explainable, i.e it is not a black box. Companies will be provided with a testing environment, to develop new AI models before their release to the public.

Robots and robotic programming

Robots are the new frenzy. Now with the advent of robotic programming, robots can be used to program computers. Programmers are seeing theit jobs being replaced by robots and some IT companies have stopped recruiting workers. However, this can be considered from another another viewpoint. Robots can contribute to reducing our workload and free time for leisure. This will pave the way for 4-day work weeks or even 3-day work weeks. Belgium became the first country in Europe to implement a 4-day work week without a loss in salary. However caution should be exercised with the use of robots as there can be a Terminator scenario!

Nuclear AI

In the meantime, AI aficionados have come up with new ways of AI control such as Nuclear AI control.  This comes from research on particle accelerators in institutions such as CERN in Switzerland and it has become a powerful form of AI control.  Particles or atoms can be employed electronically because they have a positive or negative charge associated with them and this principle can be used to bring about a form of AI control called Nuclear AI control.

The mantra for removing this nuclear AI is as follows: -

Aum mahashaktimaya paramashiva nataraje namaha (or Aum shrimahavishnu paramashiva nataraje)

Jai Shri Krishna!
